The Arab Association for Agricultural Research Institutions in the Near East and North Africa (AARINENA) participated in the workshop entitled “Enhancing Investment in Scientific Research”, held under the patronage and participation of HRH Princess Basma bint Ali. The event brought together representatives from research institutions, universities, development organizations, and experts from Jordan and the region to discuss the importance of scientific research as a cornerstone for sustainable development and innovation.
During the workshop, participants highlighted the critical role of scientific research in addressing current regional challenges, particularly in the fields of agriculture, food security, climate resilience, water management, and sustainable natural resource use. Discussions also emphasized the need to strengthen partnerships between research institutions, the private sector, and policymakers in order to increase investment in research and innovation.
AARINENA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting collaborative agricultural research, capacity building, and regional knowledge exchange among its member institutions. The Association stressed that investing in scientific research is essential for advancing agricultural sustainability, improving livelihoods, and fostering resilient food systems across the Near East and North Africa region.
The workshop provided an important platform for dialogue on strengthening research ecosystems and encouraging innovative approaches that contribute to economic and social development. Participants also exchanged experiences and recommendations on enhancing funding opportunities and promoting effective research partnerships at national and regional levels.
