AARINENA participated in the Second Scientific Day for Date Palm in Jordan, held on 2 September 2026 at the National Agricultural Research Center (NARC) under the theme “Prospects for the Sustainability of Date Palm in Jordan.”
The event brought together researchers, experts, agricultural institutions, and stakeholders to exchange scientific knowledge and discuss challenges and opportunities for strengthening the sustainability of Jordan’s date palm sector. The opening programme included contributions from NARC, the Jordan Society for Scientific Research, Entrepreneurship and Creativity, FAO, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Jordan Dates Association.
The scientific programme addressed key issues affecting date palm production, including water scarcity, genetic characterization, integrated management of red palm weevil, irrigation and fertilization, pest management, fruit quality and nutrition, and innovative pollination techniques.
Representing AARINENA, Dr. Rida A. Shibli, Executive Secretary, chaired the second scientific session, which featured presentations on emerging date palm pests, improving fruit quality, the nutritional value of dates and their role in healthy diets, management of Dubas bug, and a new pollination technique for Barhi and Medjool date palms under Jordan Valley conditions.
AARINENA’s participation reflects its continued commitment to supporting date palm research, knowledge exchange, sustainable production, and regional collaboration. Date palm is an important crop across the NENA region, and strengthening cooperation among researchers, producers, and institutions is essential to addressing shared challenges and advancing a more resilient and sustainable sector.
