The Conference on Directing Scientific Production in Jordanian Universities to Align with the Needs of Government Ministries and Societal Requirements

AARINENA association, represented by its Executive Secretary, Dr. Rida Shibli, participated in the proceedings of the Conference on Directing Scientific Production in Jordanian Universities to align with the needs of government ministries and societal requirements. This took place during the period of December 28-30, 2023, at the Dead Sea, Jordan.

This conference aims to direct efforts towards integrating scientific research in universities with solutions to societal issues and problems, as well as promoting economic development and innovation for the benefit of the Jordanian society through coordination and collaboration between universities and government ministries. These policies are designed to guide universities and relevant ministries towards effective steps to achieve these vital goals. Directing scientific research towards urgent social and economic issues is considered a strategic investment that can contribute to sustainable development and social well-being.

The conference is organized by the Public Services Committee of the Senate, in partnership with several Jordanian universities and community institutions.

At the beginning of the sessions, the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation presented a matrix outlining the national priorities based on the needs of ministries. A discussion paper on the “Methodology of the Work of Research and Scientific Funds and the Steering Committee” was also presented, chaired by Dr. Issa Murad. During the discussion, the importance of scientific research was emphasized, highlighting the necessity of establishing and regulating the activities of scientific research support funds. The discussion also called for the implementation of scientific research in practical contexts and the enhancement of the research role of universities.

The sessions addressed the role of universities in producing their knowledge and scientific economies, as well as knowledge transfer. Various presidents of government and private universities spoke during these sessions, emphasizing that knowledge and its economies generate innovation and creativity.

A roundtable discussion included the presidents of Yarmouk University, Jordan University of Science and Technology, Al al-Bayt University, American University of Madaba, Al Hussein Technical University, and the Secretary-General of the Higher Council for Science and Technology in Jordan. The discussion focused on mechanisms for developing scientific research that aligns with global developments and changes, contributing to the national economy through projects that help overcome challenges in this field.
