The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Association of Agricultural Research Institutions in the Near East and North Africa (AARINENA) organized the meeting related to the established research, technology and innovation date palm platform in the NENA region

AARINENA arranged an Important meeting for Date Palm Experts and Key Persons in the NENA Region. This special meeting done with distinct number of date palm experts from different countries of the NENA region, this involved experts from Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan, Kuwait, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Sudan and other.

This meeting discussed how to support the Date Palm Innovation Platform (aarinena.org/palm/), and the discussions regarding the engagement and participation and crucial inputs related to the date palm sector in the region, on June 6, 2022.

The participants discussed how to activate the date palm innovation platform, this involved to do many separated meeting for each country, in each meeting to invite the date palm experts and farmers, then to enter to the platform and write the important issues related to the date palm, then to reply to the issues.

The decisions of the meeting involved:

• To have one or more meetings in each country.
• To communicate with the focal point of each country, and those focal points communicate with other farmers in their country’s to participate with our coming meetings.
• To start meetings with Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia in June 2022.
• Then in first two weeks of July 2022 to start our meetings with Iraq, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.
• To have our webinar in the third week of July 2022.
• To have the field day in Jordan in the fourth week of July 2022.
• Later to continue our meetings in Oman, Yemen, and United Arab Emirates first of August 2022.
